Spring into Hiking!

OUR TOP 5 SUGGESTIONS FOR SPRING HIKING…

Today marks the third official day of spring and, with the warm weather already this morning, it definitely feels like it! With the weekend on its way, now is the perfect time to begin planning some outdoor fun for the rest of spring.

A favorite activity of ours when the weather is nice is hiking, and there are several trails in Clay that you will want to visit while the weather is warming and the flowers are blooming.

Here is a list of the top 5 trails we suggest you visit this spring.

BONEBENDER TRAIL, SMITHVILLE LAKE

This 6 mile trail is paved all the way through and loops alongside the lake near the Camp Branch Swim Beach and the Little Platte arm of the lake. The trail meanders through scenic valleys that come to life with wildflowers during the spring and summer; usually there are birds and butterflies a-plenty to spot in this area as well. The trail is easy to access and comfortable to walk.

PAVED BICYCLE LAKE TRAIL, WATKINS MILL STATE PARK

The Paved Bicycle Lake Trail is 3.75 miles long and loops around Watkins Mill State Park’s beautiful Williams Creek Lake. As the name suggests, the trail is paved, making it perfect for a nice relaxing walk.

MARTHA LAFITE THOMPSON NATURE SANCTUARY, LIBERTY

Martha Lafite Thompson has numerous trails to offer, each are of varying difficulty and explore different sections of the woods. The sanctuary is home to a wide array of natural wildflowers and wildlife that will make any adventure along their trails during the spring a memorable occasion!

WAGGIN’ TRAILS DOG PARK, NORTH KANSAS CITY

Though not a trail, we thought it would be good to include a pet-friendly outdoor destination for your four-legged friends who are just as ready to get out and about after this long winter! Plan some playtime at Clay County’s premier dog park this spring for a barking good time!

PENGUIN PARK, KANSAS CITY

Whether you visit so the kids can play on the park’s newly revamped playground or to take a walk on the park’s looping paved trail, Penguin Park is a great place to visit for some outdoor fun this spring.
