Historic Jesse James

Overview

One of Clay’s biggest history draws is Jesse James. Infamous outlaw that he is, Jesse James has quite the pull with history buffs, particularly those interested in tales of the Wild West. Home to the birthplace of Jesse James and the bank where the James Gang committed the first successful daytime bank robbery in the United States, there is plenty of history to explore here.

Check out the James history tour we’ve laid out for you. And, if you’re interested in bonus tour content, see our recommended stop that is a short 45 minute drive away from Clay—the home where Jesse James was shot and killed.

Located in St. Joseph, the Jesse James home is a Museum that lets you tour where Jesse James was killed.
