Clay County BBQ Restaurant Trail

Kansas City has some of the best BBQ in the country. We specialize in slow smoked meats and rubs and sauces that range from sweet to fiery. Kansas City Barbecue originated in the early 1900’s and uses meats like pork, beef, chicken, and sausage. And, of course, burnt ends! The Kansas City area is home to over 100 different barbecue restaurants and Clay is no stranger to these tasty meals. Check out what Clay has to offer with our unique takes on this old favorite!

Smokin' Guns

Your tour of Clay’s barbecue starts at the award-winning Smokin’ Guns. Since 1997, this local favorite has been serving up savory brisket and turkey meals; they even have some delicious desert options that you won’t want to miss. You don’t even have to take our word on how mouth-watering this BBQ joint is, Guy Fieri from Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives agrees! If you want to try what Guy Fieri ate when he visited, than make sure to order the Triple D plate.

Hawg Jaw Que & Brew

Expect classic KC BBQ with a twist when you enter this local eatery. Voted Kansas City’s Best New BBQ in 2012 by the Kansas City Pitch, your taste buds will be treated well at Hawg Jaw Que & Brew. We recommend you order their specialty sandwich, the Irish Hawg; smoked corned beef, smoked sausage, spicy sauerkraut, Thousand Island dressing, and Swiss cheese served on toasted marble rye.

Smokehouse BBQ

Considered by some to be the epitome of Kansas City barbecue, Smokehouse is a must-taste stop for any foodie’s tour of Clay. What makes Smokehouse unique are their house-made rubs and sauces. One of Smokehouse’s most popular dishes are their burnt ends, so you’ll want to make sure to give them a try when you visit.

Wabash BBQ

Housed in a historic train depot, what’s now Wabash BBQ was once the passenger waiting room. Wabash offers tasty BBQ along with a thematic atmosphere that you won’t find anywhere else. Wabash is best known for their ribs and chicken , so we recommend you order one or both when you dine there! If the locally loved tastes aren’t enough to get you to visit, then plan on catching some live music at Wabash’s Blues Garden; concerts are scheduled weekly.

Chop's BBQ

Known locally as reliably delicious favorite, Chop’s BBQ offers barbeque that everyone raves about. We suggest you order an app or two to go along with your dining experience, because no trip to Chop’s is complete without tearing into their pulled pork nachos. They even offer house-made pork rinds.
