Free Summer Activities

With warm summer days and vacation for the kids, sometimes it’s hard to fill up your schedules with family fun activities, especially when you’re working within a budget. There are several free events and activities in Clay that will help you entertain your family without needing to spend a dime!
1. Attend a free concert! There are numerous free concerts throughout Clay during the summer! Catch a live show at Linden Square or head to the Wabash Bluesgarden for some live blues or classical rock. 2. There are plenty of free outdoor movie nights around the county too! Liberty hosts several movie nights, see their full schedule here. The Village at Briarcliff hosts movies at well, see what’s coming up here. Downtown Smithville hosts free movies at the center of their historic square! Peruse their calendar to see their next movie date. Kearney hosts live movies too, read over their upcoming schedule if you want to catch a movie there! Drive-in on the Square has several upcoming movies scheduled, see what’s on the calendar.
3. Gladstone’s Theatre in the Park offers free, live musicals performances by the community theatre group. All performances are held at the Gladstone Amphitheatre at Oak Grove Park. This summer’s upcoming show is Tarzan, it’s scheduled for August 2nd, 3rd, and 4th at 8:30 pm. Learn more here: https://gladstonetip.com/.
4. Want to experience history for free this summer? Plan a visit to the Shoal Creek Living History Museum and check out the village of authentic historic houses that you can view at your own pace! Visit their website to learn more: https://www.shoalcreeklivinghistorymuseum.com/.
5. Looking for a sport activity that you can enjoy for free? Try your hand at disc golf! There are several courses located around Clay County that you can play on for free (frisbees are required though). The courses at Waterworks Park in North Kansas City and Stocksdale Park in Liberty are great places to enjoy a free game
