Mother's Day!

If you’re still scrambling to make nearly last-minute plans, don’t worry, Visit Clay has a list of the top 5 unique things you can do with mom in Clay County this year to show her how much you appreciate her!

Mother’s Day is on May 12th, which means that you’ve only got about three weeks left to make your plans if you haven’t already.

1. Want to try somewhere new? Take mom to a wine tasting at Ladoga Ridge Winery!

Nestled in the rolling hills of Smithville Missouri, Ladoga Ridge Winery offers scenic views from their patio space that make any trip to the winery Instagram-worthy. Wine tastings are handled first-come, first-serve, but once you and mom have your fill of sampling from Ladoga’s 18 original wines, order your favorites and sip on them on the patio! In addition to serving wines by the bottle and glass, Ladoga Ridge Winery is offering several flavors of wine slushes that are perfectly refreshing for these warming months.

There are several spa packages available at The Elms, but you can customize a package that will be perfect for you and your mom; this is a perfect option for a mother-daughter getaway especially! The Elm’s Spa offers several services, including numerous massage options, facials, body treatments, hydrotherapy, nail care, hair and makeup services, and more! After your spa day with mom, you could grab lunch or dinner either at The Elms or at your choice of restaurant in Downtown Excelsior Springs!

3. Is your mom more of the adventurous type? Learn a new skill with her at Liberty’s first indoor axe throwing range!

Did you know that there’s an indoor axe-throwing range in Liberty? It’s a fairly new addition to the city, but it offers the perfect opportunity to release your inner lumberjack/jill while enjoying a great time with your family and friends! Food isn’t served at the range, but you can bring whatever you want for you and your group to enjoy while you’re there! Outside beverages are not allowed, but they do serve a variety of beers, ciders, malt beverages, and sodas! Make sure to read the safety rules before going; any participants will need to sign a waiver!

Pinot’s Palette, found at the Village in Briarcliff, and Blanc Palette in Liberty both offer painting classes led by professional artists. All classes are BYOB, so make sure you provide mom with her favorite beverage to enjoy while she paints! Both Pinot’s Palette and Blanc Palette have classes made specifically for Mother’s Day. If any of them catch your eye, make sure to register as soon as possible so you and mom don’t miss out!
